Transitioning to regular show season and other things around Cliffwood Farm

Wednesday, March 4th, 2015

Hi Everyone!

Here at Cliffwood Farm we are looking forward to the weather warming up!

As our IEA season comes to an end we are transitioning into our regular show season. Before we close the book on the IEA for the year, 2 of our riders, Eden and Ella,  are showing at Regionals this weekend at Culver Academy in Indiana. Once the season is done, Ana Vazquez is taking over the IEA team and the lesson program. Ana has worked her way up through our program and is now an invaluable piece to our team. We can’t wait to see her build our show team!

Also at Cliffwood, our Farm Manager, Kara, is teaching a 6 week class to help fill in the gaps in your horse education. It is for riders and horse owners of all ages and will cover topics including: wound care, giving shots, wrapping legs, nutrition, conformation and movement and will end with a live judging hunter/ equitation clinic. Check out our Events page for the flyer and more information!

Enjoy the sunshine!

Jamie Waters

Hi Everyone,

Please welcome Jamie Waters to the Cliffwood Farm Family as our new Hunter/jumper trainer! Jamie comes to Cliffwood with wealth of knowledge and experience. She spent her early professional years working on the winter circuit in Florida for Grand Prix trainers. She then went to work for Silver Creek Sporthorses, a top breeding farm in Oklahoma. At Silver Creek she broke out many young horses and worked with several breeding stallions. Jamie currently shows at the “A” level all across the country. She is a confident rider and trainer who will work with any horse or rider. She is also continuing her riding education with World Cup trainer/rider Mariano Bedoya. She believes in tailoring a program that is best suited for both horse and rider.  She is currently coaching both our IEA team and our regular hunter/jumper show team.

Cliffwood Farm Chooses 2 New Interns!

Thursday, October 10th, 2013

After a long search and many excellent candidates, we chose to add 2 interns to our Cliffwood Team! Here is a little bit about them in their own words!

Ana Vazquez

Horseback riding has always been a passion of mine. I’ve been riding horses for over 12 years and I could not picture my life without horses. My internship with Cliffwood Farm will help me pursue my dream to become a hunter/jumper trainer. I love what I do and I’m so thankful for the opportunity that was given to me.

Eden Manuel

At 16 years old, I have been riding for over 8 years, and have experience in several different disciplines. With years of show experience, I have achieved many year-end highpoint awards from different show circuits. I studied horsemanship across the country and am looking into riding at the colligate level. I am very excited to be part of the Cliffwood Farm Team and to learn from the great trainers and staff.

Cliffwood Farm is seeking a new Working Student Intern!

Monday, August 19th, 2013

The working student will assist both the head hunter/jumper trainer and the farm manager in order to learn about all aspects of the horse business. We are flexible with days/times, but the intern should be at the farm for 20 hours per week. The working student will receive at least one free lesson per week, plus additional practice rides when available. There could be a lot of riding and showing opportunities for the right candidate. This internship designed to teach about the horse industry.

Must be 16 or older. Horse experience required, hunter/jumper riding experience preferred, but we are willing to train. Great for your college resume!

Please contact Kara at 224-522-7845 or email for more information or to apply.

Cliffwood Farm Update

Thursday, July 18th, 2013

Hello Everyone!

It has been quite a while since we have caught everyone up on what’s going on around Cliffwood farm! To start, Emma and Dottie just returned from the “A” rated show at Ledges, in Roscoe IL. Emma jumped around the baby green hunters like a pro at her first recognized show! The Cliffwood team is very proud of her. Colby and Dottie were reserve champ in the 11 and under equitation at their first show together as a team. I, as their trainer, could not be happier with their performance.

August 11th! Mark your calendars!! We will be hosting a show here at Cliffwood Farm! It will be a hunter/jumper show for anyone to do! We hope that our students will be participating in this show, giving that we have fabulous school horses that can teach so much. Nina, our wonderful large pony that has competed all over the country, including pony finals, will be available to compete on Aug 11th. We also have Jaslo, our big Selle Francias Warmblood gelding. Jaslo has taught many different riders about the horse shows; he would be such an awesome horse to learn the “horse show ways” on! We also have Sherlock. He is our very flashy paint gelding, who I must say has the world’s most comfortable sitting trot and canter. He would be perfect for all of the students who have been practicing their equitation! Come on out and meet them!
